Rovio, the Finnish company that created the popular game Angry Birds, has partnered with Comcast Xfinity to showcase the cartoon version of the game. Called “Angry Bird Toons”, Comcast Xfinity subscribers will be able to watch it on Xfinity on Demand, or stream it via the Xfinity TV player app or by logging in at Xfinity.com/tv.
The new cartoon series will also be making it worldwide debut on the following channels: JEI TV (Korea), FOX8 (Australia), Cartoon Network India, Gloob (Brazil), Canal J (France), Super RTL (Germany), and the Children’s Channel (Israel). The first season will feature 52 episodes, with more to be produced should the series prove to be as popular as its game version.
So far, Comcast is the only U.S. based cable MSO that offers access to this highly anticipated cartoon series. With competition among pay TV providers heating up, Comcast is looking to offer more programming choices in a bid to attract customers from other pay TV providers. The company recently started offering TV Everywhere, which allows customers to stream live TV anywhere outside the home (as long as there is an internet connection). This exclusive deal with Rovio to premier the Angry Birds cartoon in the U.S. is only the latest move to solidify Comcast’s position as the leading provider of video and unique programming.
