Comcast Re-confirms Its Commitment To The Internet Society For 6th Consecutive Year

ISOCLogoComcast, the nation’s largest cable provider and parent company of broadcaster NBCUniversal, has recommitted as a Platinum Organization Supporter for the Internet Society. The Internet Society is an international organization dedicated to the promotion and development of the Internet all over the globe, which counts many prominent companies and individuals as upstanding members.

The cable giant will also co-sponsor the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) meeting, IETF 86, in Orlando, Florida on March 10 thru 15. The event will be attended by more than 1,000 engineers, computer scientists, and researchers from around the world. The goal of every IETF event is to promote the development and evolution of Internet standards and protocols throughout the world.

“We are pleased to co-host our second IETF meeting in a row and third meeting since 2008, as well as continue our Platinum level sponsorship of the Internet Society,” stated Comcast VP of Internet & Communications Engineering James Livingood. “Successful Internet governance and Internet standards need to continue to be open and consensus-based, and I hope our strong support for the IETF and Internet Society will ensure the continued success of this model.”

The Internet Society has an influential network of 65,000 Members, 91 Chapters, and more than 145 Organization Members throughout the globe. In order to fulfill its mission of promoting open and accessible Internet for anyone across the globe, the organization has sought the support of sympathetic corporations, nonprofits, foundations, colleges and universities, trade and professional groups, and government agencies.

“We are very pleased that Comcast continues to commit to the work of the Internet Society and the IETF. Comcast has been a strong supporter of the Internet Society over the years and we deeply appreciate our on-going partnership with them,” said Walda Roseman, the Internet Society’s COO. “Our Organization Members are essential to advancing our work to ensure the Internet continues to grow and evolve as a platform for innovation, economic development, and social progress.”
