    Cox Communications Kicks Off Black History Month By Highlighting African American Centered Programming

    black historyFebruary is Black History Month, so Cox Communications is taking the opportunity to promote African American centered programming in their On Demand library.

    Three On Demand collections will be featured prominently: the Black Directors and Black Cinema Collection, which can be seen all February; and the Tyler Perry Collection, which Cox subscribers can access from February 5 to March 4.

    The Black Directors Collection features popular titles like: Sparkle, Precious, The Paperboy, The Best Man, Do The Right Thing, The Secret Life Of Bees, and much more.

    The Black Cinema Collection includes popular choices like: Amistad, Pride, Won’t Back Down, Ali, Salute, Roots: The Mini Series, and more.

    For fans of Tyler Perry’s work, the following titles are available on demand: Madea’s Witness Protection, Daddy’s Little Girls, Diary Of A Mad Black Woman, Meet The Browns, and much more.

    The cable MSO will also be participating in the following local events to celebrate Black History Month:

    Florida—Cox Communications sponsored an appearance by Capt. Barrington Irving in Fort Walton Beach, who is the youngest person to pilot a plane around the world by himself. He is active in encouraging minority youth to pursue careers in aviation.

    Louisiana—Cox team members from the Acadiana area will attend and participate in the 10th Annual African American History Parade on February 24. In accordance to the theme “And Still I Rise”, Cox’s float will be decorated to highlight African American contributions to art and entertainment forms and pay homage to celebrated author and poet Maya Angelou.

    Virginia—Cox has partnered with Fairfax County, and will host an official Black History Month event at the Fairfax County Government Center. In addition, the cable MSO will be offering a scholarship that will enable young musicians to attend the Jefferson Center Music Lab Jazz Institute in Roanoke.

    It’s good to see that companies like Cox are doing their part to recognize the important contributions that African Americans have made to American history and society. They are also known for their commitment to diversity and equal opportunity hiring practices, and was included in DiversityInc’s list of Top 50 Companies For Diversity.
