IC Punch Media, Inc.—also known as Punch TV, has revealed that their new network will be available to Comcast customers in Jackson, MS on Channel 14. The network has also entered into an agreement with Jackson State University (JSU) to provide a variety of content with multi-media capabilities, such as JSU’s WeatherVision Meteorology program.
Comcast subscribers can expect quality primetime programming, which should feature at least 70% original content. The network will feature exclusive signature shows, which include 50 new comedies, dramas, talk shows, variety shows, and other kinds of family friendly entertainment.
According to Punch TV President Joseph Collins, “No other Digi-Network can satisfy the palate like Punch TV when it comes to gauging audience appetites. We definitely have a unique format that resonates with today’s urban viewers and a business model that is profitable.”
Edward Saint Pe’, Director of Sales for the JSU Digital Media Center added, “We are very excited about the partnership. Punch TV is innovative and what separates them from other media networks is the original programming. Punch TV is a great asset for the city of Jackson, Mississippi.”
David Hoard, VP for Institutional Advancement at Jackson State University, is also enthusiastic about the launch of Punch TV: “Yes, we are pleased to have a partnership with Punch TV. Having one of the great historical black universities and our TV station in Jackson, MS, with a growing urban network is perfect for our expansion plan and fits perfectly with our weather meteorology program.”
There is no word if the new network has any plans to expand to other markets any time soon. It would probably depend on how well the new channel does in Jackson. It’s good to know that even in today’s era of media conglomerates, cable can still serve as a good platform for alternative programming.
