In a joint effort with the Staten Island Development Corp. (SEIDC), Time Warner Cable has extended its fiber optic network to cover Staten Island’s West Shore corridor—which should be a boon to the area’s existing businesses. As a result of the network expansion, 25 companies that are located in the borough are getting their communications and Ethernet systems upgraded by Time Warner Cable.
The availability of high speed, fiber optic powered internet service should be a great benefit for existing businesses, and should help attract new businesses: “There are hundreds of acres of vacant land that is a little more attractive to businesses now that we have fiber optics there,” noted SEIDC CEO Cesar J. Claro.
The new network link will cover Chelsea Road, Meredith Avenue, South Avenue, and the surrounding blocks. Businesses in the area can always call Time Warner Cable to make sure that they are located within its service area.
“TWC Business Class has made a significant investment in making sure that we can deliver state-of-the-art, best-in-class solutions that cover not only Internet, but Voice, Ethernet, Cloud services and collaboration services,” declared Maureen Link, the regional VP of marketing for TWC Business Class, East.
Before the latest network buildout by Time Warner Cable, most businesses in the West Shore area had to make do with slow DSL service, or could not get any internet service at all. It was an unacceptable state of affairs for Staten Island businesses to have to endure outdated technology and decreased competitiveness
“Over the past few years, we have struggled with our Internet connection, which has often stalled our business productivity,” observed Phil Culotta, owner of Design Plumbing on Spencer Street in Chelsea. “This new service from TWC Business Class will serve as a key component to growing our business into the future.”
In today’s increasingly digitized world, businesses need fast and reliable internet service as much as they need water and electricity. With Time Warner Cable’s latest fiber optic buildout, Staten Island’s West Shore should experience a boost in business activity—which will benefit not just the businesses themselves, but the community as a whole.
