Time Warner Cable, the nation’s 2nd largest cable provider, has entered the home management and security market, launching the IntelligentHome system in Austin, Texas. To create the state of the art monitoring and security system, the cable company contracted iControl Networks to develop the platform.
iControl Networks was originally founded in 2005 as uControl in Austin, before merging with Redwood City, CA-based iControl Networks in November 2010. According to iControl Networks Executive VP and GM Jim Johnson, “Most of that technology is used behind-the-scenes… [The IntelligentHome] technology comes to life through the mobile phone, the touch screen. It’s very exciting for the folks who work on it.”
Time Warner Cable’s IntelligentHome is an advanced wireless home security system that is versatile enough to let residents control various essential home functions from their computer or smartphone, such as: adjusting the thermostat; scheduling when the lights will turn on; and activating the alarm. The system includes cameras that are installed in the home, so residents can monitor their home anytime they are away. In addition, “the home security system knows when there is activity in your house and when you’re home or when you’re away,” Johnson noted. Customers can set up text or email notifications whenever there is activity in the home, to minimize any chance of getting caught off guard.
